This course is approved by the Tertiary Education Commission and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989 and Nelson Technical Institute is accredited to teach it.

Due to the flexible programme design, trainees may enrol at any stage throughout the year.

This programme is a 36 week full-time course.

Programme hours

8:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. This may vary for field work and work experience.

Programme cost

This programme is free. Training and travel allowances may be available, please enquire with the tutor. 

Programme structure

The programme is made up of self paced learning packages including a combination of classroom theory, simulated practical, on site practical and actual work experience.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for this programme are inline with the Tertiary Educations Commissions Youth Guarantee eligibility criteria. This can be discussed during the applicant interview stage.

What will the programme provide you with?

The programme is an introductory certificate for people wishing to pursue employment and further training in the electrical and related industries. It is the first stage of training programmes leading to qualifications as an electrician in the related fields. This course allows the trainee to learn and apply safe working practices as they apply to the electrical industry. 

The programme content is registered on the National Qualifications Framework. On successful completion of the programme you will receive: 

NCEA Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure ELECTRICAL Industry (Level 2)
