Operations manager

Born in Nelson, I returned home with my family later in life after growing up in the North Island. I joined Nelson Technical Institute in 2002 and continued to work remotely from 2005 - 2008 while I had two young boys and lived in Waipu,  returning to the office in 2009. As the Operations Manager, I enjoy the many challenges the role brings, the people and seeing the trainees self confidence grow as they succeed.

Paul Hawkes

Automotive Engineering Tutor

Born and bred Motueka resident, married with two sons. I am currently elected duputy chairperson for the Tasman District Council Motueka Community Board. I completed my automotive qualifications in 1985, and continued in the industry. In 2006 I joined an industry training organisation (ITO), training and mentoring motor and related industry apprenticeships training programes. I have been fortunate enough over the years to have had excellent teachers and believe it is time to pass the wealth of knowledge on. I am passionate about training and being able to offer guidance to future generations of trade personnel. It is my privilege to be able to work with Nelson Technical Institute to achieve this.

Electrical Engineering Tutor

I really enjoy living on the edge of sunny Tasman Bay with my wonderful wife and our little family. Nelson Technical Institute gives me the opportunity to mix my passion for both education and the electrical industry. I am an experienced registered educator with an active interest in educational psychology. I am a registered linemechanic and I believe this background in the electricity supply industry brings diversity to a course that is primarly electrotechnology industry based.

CRT Tutor

Being born and bred in Nelson and having worked and lived my life in Nelson I have met a lot of interesting people associated within the forestry, sawmilling and transport industries all throughout the South Island. This has been of great benefit to me in my role as the Commercial Road Transport tutor for NTI.

Licencing Assessor

Having spent 21 years as a mechanic for the Army I left the army and drove tour coaches all over NZ where I got involved with driver training. I found the training side satisfying so pursued it and qualified as a heavy vehicle driving instructor and an accredited assessor. I worked for a driver training company in Auckland for 5 years then came to Nelson for a more relaxed lifestyle. Working at NTI gives me the satisfaction of training without the pressure of a big city.
